Jul 20, 2009 – Consumers in San Francisco, San Jose and the Bay Area looking to take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program can shop for a new, fuel efficient car at Boardwalk Volkswagon in Redwood City. The Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) is scheduled to begin around July 24th, but funds are limited. California residents are encouraged to shop early and begin selecting the new car that will best fit their needs.
California residents who would like to know if they could trade in their current ‘clunker’ for a new Volkswagen should first visit http://www.cars.gov to see if their clunker will qualify for a CARS credit. If the trade-in is rated on the Federal website as getting a combined 18 mpg or less, the car will qualify for the program.
