Baby sign language has been around for over 20 years but to date has been based around the sign language of a specific country such as American Sign Language (ASL). ASL signs are based on finger spelling of the alphabet and can be too difficult for babies to learn. Toddler Interpreter baby sign language has been developed specifically for hearing children. It incorporates natural gestures and some modified traditional signs but all signs have been specifically chosen as gestures that describe an action or meaning of a word and therefore can be understood without any knowledge of traditional sign language.
Most baby sign language products on the market consist of an alphabetical list of baby signs leaving it up to the parent to decide where and how to start. Toddler Interpreter baby sign language resources have been developed in 5 easy stages of learning to take the guess work out of teaching baby sign language. The most basic and most relevant baby signs are taught first and they are increasingly more difficult as you progress through the five stages. Baby’s are rewarded when they are understood with the most basic of signs encouraging them to communicate with more complicated gestures later on.
Toddler Interpreter is a trademark and registered business name of I & M Creaser Pty Ltd. The directors collectively have over 13 years experience between them teaching and using sign language. Toddler Interpreter baby sign language products are available at www.toddlerinterpreter.com.
